(EGGS)
The
Energy and Greenhouse Gas Solutions initiative seeks to provide economic
solutions to climate change in Hawai'i. EGGS is an initiative of the
University of Hawai'i Economic Research Organization (UHERO).
Energy and Greenhouse Gas Solutions is undertaking a comprehensive analysis
of Hawaii's energy infrastructure, economy, and emissions associated with
human activity. This analysis has compiled 'bottom up' data on firm-level
and household fuel use, technology, and other activities and reconciled
these data with macroeconomic energy and emissions data for 1990 to 2005.
Under development is a dynamic computable general equilibrium model of
Hawaii's economy, energy infrastructure, and greenhouse gas emissions. The
Hawai'i EGGS model will be used to evaluate policies such as a carbon tax,
cap and trade quota system, and regulatory interventions. Extensions may
include economic and environmental prospects associated with new
technologies such as bio-fuel energy sources, plug-in hybrid vehicles, and
other proposed energy solutions. ( "Hawai'i

(Task 8 - Issue: Financial incentives and barriers and other funding)
To identify and evaluate financial incentives and
barriers at points along the bioenergy production value chain
(feedstock production, feedstock logistics, conversion, biofuel
distribution, and end use) and their potential impact on the
production of biofuels at levels sufficient to contribute a
significant renewable energy resource to the State. To provide
information, analysis, and recommendations related to this
