Statics

Summary:

Statics is the first important course in civil engineering. It is considered as a fundamental course of diverse fields of civil and structural engineering. By the end of this course, students understand the fundamentals of forces and moments, and be able to solve equilibrium problems for rigid (non-deformable) bodies in both two and three dimensions. This course is recommended for the 2nd semester of the undergraduate civil engineering program at Isfahan University of Technology.

Recommended Software Programs:

  • LinPro, version 2.7.5 (Link): LinPro is a simple application for static and dynamic analysis of plane frames. Static analysis: Program supports different types of loads and is very flexible at creating structure. It has almost everything you need for linear static analysis of plane frames. Modal analysis: Program calculates natural frequencies and mode shapes of a structure. Dynamic analysis: In order to determine dynamic response of a structure LinPro performs linear time-history analysis. As a solution method LinPro uses mode superposition method.
  • Mastan2, version 3.0 (Link): MASTAN2 is an interactive graphics program that provides preprocessing, analysis, and postprocessing capabilities. Preprocessing options include definition of structural geometry, support conditions, applied loads, and element properties. The analysis routines provide the user the opportunity to perform first- or second-order elastic or inelastic analyses of two- or three-dimensional frames and trusses subjected to static loads.
